Most of this book is about my adventures and perspective, but it’s more than that. It’s about people.  Not just people that I know, but I am guessing that you will recognize a few of them as well. I decided on Fields of Grain because I think it sets the tone - a frame of reference, if you will.  A gentle reminder that life in this country hasn’t always been fast cars and video games.
There was a time not so long ago.  A time before Hendrix, pot, acid and free love, when doors were left unlocked, and neighbors not only knew each other but took care of each other.  A little naïve?  Maybe.
Growing up in rural New England, in 1963 might not seem like much of a challenge.  After all, the most pressing issues of the day were concerned with if the weather would hold until harvest time, or if the high school football team would make the playoffs.  But the winds of change were blowing. Little did the kids of Pine Valley know that this particular summer would be a primer for the rest of their lives.
